Grant Show, an American actor of both television and stage, turns 49 today. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Grant actually broke into show business during his college years. He first major role was as Rick Ryde on the daytime soap Ryan's Hope, a part he played from 1984 to 1987. Later, he was even considered by the producers of Thelma and Louise (1991) for the now brief but well known part that Brad Pitt played. Shows appearances on television attracted the attention of producer Aaron Spelling who felt he had star potential and decided to cast him as Jake Hanson on a few episodes of the popular series Beverley Hills, 90210 in order to spin off the character as the lead in his next series Melrose Place. It was a role that was to last for five years, from 1992 to 1997, and the series made Show one of the most popular and best-known actors on American television during the 1990's. Since then, Grant has gone on to many more television series and made for television movies, and has also acted in a number of stage productions. Of his role in Melrose Place, Grant has been quoted as saying: "I like playing a good guy. I will say that Jake from Melrose Place is a little too nice, but in a show that's painted with very broad strokes, if your going to be good, you're going to be very good, and if you're bad, you're going to be very, very bad. So if I had to make a choice, I'd opt for the good guy."
